Our Food Pantry
Lutheran Church of the Cross Food Pantry strives to help improve the health and quality of life of needy families in Arlington Heights and the surrounding communities of Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Mt. Prospect and Rolling Meadows. We are blessed to serve as a vehicle to share the abundance God has showered upon us so that we in turn can provide a wide variety of nutritious foods to fulfill the physical side of a recipient's well-being while also offering kindness and encouragement to aid in feeding their emotional and spiritual hunger as well.
People may perceive the Northwest Chicago area as being affluent, but even prosperous suburbs have a significant number of residents who do not know where their next meal is coming from. Many in need fall into the very vulnerable categories of seniors, people with disabilities, the homeless, and our youngest group--the children. Our area also includes many low and middle income families who need some assistance stretching their food budgets just to make ends meet.
As a member Agency of the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) since 2007 when we serviced an average of 40 families weekly and distributed 2,000 bags of groceries -- in 2017 we averaged 100 recipients weekly which translates to serving over 5,000 recipients helping to feed approximately 15,000 family members that year! Our pantry clients are a diverse population of various nationalities--Hispanic, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, American, etc.
